StAnza programmes a wide selection of readings throughout each festival: main stage readings in The Byre, teatime readings in Parliament Hall and others with their own identity. In 2008 Voices of Scotland highlighted Scots Language poets, Gaelic poets (reading in the original and in translation) and Scottish poets writing in English; Showcase readings gave a dedicated platform to poets connected with specific publications, awards or other countries; while the Poetry & Conflict reading launched this particular festival theme. An innovation for 2008, Round Table Readings offered the opportunity to encounter poetry in a very different way; the poet joined a very limited audience in an intimate venue to read poems, comment and chat – big name poets but no big stage. Also new in 2008, The Glasgow Scene highlighted poets associated with that city’s vibrant and expanding poetry scene, others of whom appeared across the festival programme.
