Poetry Map of Scotland, poem no. 133: Carstairs

Carstairs Junction

Heavy haul freightliner frustrated waiting there
Clearing her engine with a hoasting sound
Flakes of snow falling, misty light dwindling

On the other track comes the train North Berwick bound

Her trucks point their sharpened snouts
West - they point west- coal fills her trucks
Above the high wall the closed station pub rises
