Ian Crockatt on Rognvaldr Kali Kolsson and Egill Skallagrimsson; Agnes Scott Langeland on Stein Mehren

In our Past & Present sessions, contemporary speakers share their enthusiasm for favourite past poets. Today we hear from two Scottish poets and translators, each discussing a notable Norwegian past poet. Ian Crockatt will be discussing two Norse poets, as well as reading some of their work in Old Norse. Rognvaldr Kali Kolsson was a striking and intriguing eleventh-century Norwegian figure whose surviving poetry demonstrates the multicultural style of the Viking diaspora, while Egill Skallagrimsson is te most well-known of all the early Scandinavian skalds and was also a legendary Viking and warrior. Also speaking will be Agnes Scott Langeland, who will share her interest in Stein Mehren, an award-winning poet and playwright known for the nearly microscopic focus in his work, who published over fifty books following his debut in 1960.
