The StAnza Lecture: The Beasts & The Animals

Thursday 2 March, 15:30 - 16:30
The Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Supper Room

Translation, language and war: Sasha Dugdale’s lecture for 2017

Join us for StAnza’s perennially popular lecture. Who better to give this year’s lecture than a figure involved in all aspects of putting poetry on the page: we’re delighted to welcome poet, translator and editor Sasha Dugdale to the podium. Dugdale is the editor of Modern Poetry in Translation and in 2016 she was awarded the Forward Prize for Best Single Poem.

‘The Beasts & The Animals’ is the truncated title of a poem by Russian poet Maria Stepanova. The poem considers the ‘civil war’ between Russia and the Ukraine, and Dugdale will be talking about translation, language and war.
