Sketching poems from life

Luke Pell was choreographer in residence at StAnza 2018. As a follow on to this, a series of free drop-in sessions this year offers the chance to explore connections between poetry, dance and movement in your own writing, or as inspiration for writing.

In visual art life classes, people sketch human figures. In the first of our dance and movement sessions, we combine the idea of life classes and dance, and are encouraging people to attempt rough sketches with words and lines on the page in response to a dancer who will be our life model for this session. Please feel free to come and observe if you prefer, though we hope you might be tempted to put pencil or pen to paper. We’d be delighted to see any poems which result from this. You can always email us these poems on
