Astrid Jaekel is a freelance artist and illustrator, and an illustration tutor at Edinburgh College of Art. Her practice encompasses a variety of techniques and disciplines, such as drawing, printmaking, painting, and paper-cutting. Her work comes in the form of illustration commissions, exhibition work, community projects, and public installations. One of her latest projects, called ‘If Wigtown’s Walls Could Talk,’ investigated the local history and stories of Wigtown’s town square. The project involved pasting wallpaper on eleven building facades. The buildings were decorated in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Wigtown Book Festival.
