A Double-Voiced Bird

Saturday 10 March, 11:00 - 13:00
Town Hall, Queens Gardens - Upstairs Foyer
This event took place in 2018

A collaboration workshop and performance

StAnza regrets that due to personal circumstances Hinemoana Baker is no longer able to attend the festival. A Double-Voiced Bird will be led by Ulrike Almut Sandig individually.

A Double-Voiced Bird, led by poets Hinemoana Baker (Māori, English) and Ulrike Almut Sandig (German, English), explores the possibilities of multiple languages in poetry, on stage, coming from several directions and in different voices; one by one, all at once, sometimes translating, sometimes not. There are so many possibilities and permutations when we break out of the more orthodox ways translation is presented in the performance of poetry. Experiments welcome. Come with some lines you like, your own or someone else's. Be ready to fling some sounds around --- in whichever tongue you prefer --- at the post-workshop performance!

We are pleased to offer the opportunity to take part in the workshop and performance to up to three people. Anyone who would like to participate in the project should email a short biography to
