Hamish Matters
Poet, songwriter and communist Hamish Henderson was an international icon and a catalyst for the folk revival in Scotland. Celebrate the centenary of his birth through his words and music, performed by a collection of poets and musicians. Live music weaves together Hamish’s poems and songs with contemporary poems inspired by him. We’ll be taking a walk through Hamish’s life: from his time as a bairn in Glenshee via his war experiences to his folklore work and the Travellers, to the People’s Festivals and his activism with figures such as Mandela, finally finishing back in Glenshee where his ashes were scattered.
With poetry and performances from John Quinn, Jon Plunkett, Morag Anderson, Jesse Anderson, Sheila Templeton, Brian Johnstone, Jim Mackintosh and Dolina MacLennan; music from Steve Byrne, Aileen Ogilvie, Karys Watt, Pipe Major Callum Douglas and Hamish and Ian MacGregor; and a soundscape engineered by Dave MacFarlane.
