Meet the Artist
A quarter of a century after he lived there, the author James Robertson comes back to Brownsbank, former home of Hugh MacDiarmid, one of twentieth-century Scotland’s greatest cultural figures. The two years Robertson spent in the tiny cottage near Biggar were life changing. In this short film, he reflects on MacDiarmid’s legacy, and the continuing significance of a seemingly insignificant place both for himself and for the nation.
This Meet the Artist event will include a screening of the film, before James Robertson, musician Steven Gellatly, and filmmakers Carolyn Scott and Andy Sim talk about the project.
In screening ‘Return to Brownsbank’, we would like to draw attention to the efforts to raise money to restore Brownsbank. More information on this can be found at the Brownbank website.
