Events - Festival 2022

In Performance

Saturday 10 March, 15:30 - 16:30
Byre Theatre, Abbey Street - Studio Theatre
This event took place in 2018

From Belgium, New Zealand and Germany, three exciting voices launch out across boundaries

StAnza regrets that due to personal circumstances Hinemoana Baker is no longer able to attend the festival. Ulrike Almut Sandig will thus be performing on her own.

Leave your preconceptions behind when you come to this performance by three poets who take poetry performance in ever new directions. Maud Vanhauwert is a Flemish performance poet who’s been known to combine poetry with magic tricks and video. We can’t promise magic today, but nonetheless, come prepared to be surprised!

Ulrike Almut Sandig and Hinemoana Baker have created a performance which blends languages and artforms, switching between English, Maori and German, poetry and music. Through the interplay of different languages, they unpick and reimagine the opportunities translation presents when brought onto the stage.

Supported by the Government of Flanders and Flanders Literature and the Goethe-Institut

Hinemoana Baker: Leonardo Carta
Ulrike Almut Sandig: Wolfgang Frank
Maud Vanhauwaert: Noortje Palmers
