Uilleam Blacker

Uilleam Blacker is a literary scholar and translator based at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London. His research focuses on the literatures and cultures of Ukraine, Poland and Russia. He wrote a book about cultural memory in post-war eastern European cities and has published on topics such as gender and nationalism, literature of the Donbas war, Polish and Ukrainian literature about the Holocaust and urban detective fiction. His translations of Ukrainian writers have appeared in Modern Poetry in Translation, Words Without Borders, Apofenie and elsewhere. His translation of Oleg Sentsov’s collection of short stories Life Went On Anyway was published in 2019 with Deep Vellum. He is also a member of the Molodyi Teatr London theatre group.
