Marjorie Lotfi
Marjorie Lotfi is a writer, seasoned performer, and the Development Director of Open Book, the charity she co-founded, which runs over 1,000 reading and creative writing groups each year for adults in community settings across Scotland. She is also a 2021 James Berry Prize winner and a Scottish Book Trust Ignite Fellow, as well as being the Deputy Chair of Trustees for StAnza, Scotland’s international Poetry Festival.
Her first collection of poetry Refuge (Tapsalteerie) reflects on her childhood experiences of growing up in revolutionary Iran in the 1970s. Her poems have been included in Best Scottish Poems, won competitions and been performed live across Scotland and on BBC Radio 4/Radio Scotland. They have also been widely published, including in Being Human and journals such as The Rialto, Gutter, Rattle, Ambit and Magma, and have been commissioned for a number of anthologies.

Open Book organises and runs over 1200 shared reading and creative writing sessions each year, for a diverse range of community and public participants across Scotland. Their creative writing sessions are relaxed and informal, and often use reading prompts as inspiration for new writing.
