Dundee-born poet and academic Dorothy Lawrenson discusses the work of Scots Poet, Marion Angus. Born in Sunderland in 1865, and raised in Arbroath from childhood, Marion Angus’ journey to poetry was nothing if not unconventional. Her work did not truly flourish until the 1920s, in an inter-war writing community that included fellow Scots poets Violet Jacob and Lewis Spence. Not long after her death in 1946, Angus’ reputation fell into obscurity, revived only in recent years by a small number of dedicated scholars. Join us to hear Dorothy Lawrenson’s analysis and exploration of the work of a most unique Scottish poet.
Dorothy Lawrenson is a writer who was born in Dundee and brought up in Fife. She teaches Creative Writing at the University of St Andrews.
