Event Details

Polly Atkin and Khairani Barokka, two poets well-acquainted with the natural world, share a selection of their poems. We’re thrilled to bring together two of the foremost voices on disability poetics and eco-poetry, and we can’t wait to hear what ideas they have to share. Atkin’s work encounters the natural world through the lens of chronic illness, particularly in her hometown of Grasmere. Okka’s work, since her spectacular debut glitch art/poetry book Indigenous Species, has always brought undervalued perspectives to the fore in her discussions of disability and natural preservation movements. Both poets are a joy to read and witness in performance, and we hope you’ll join us for this vital conversation.

Polly Atkin lives in Grasmere, in the English Lake District. Her second collection, Much With Body, was a PBS Winter 2021 recommendation and a Laurel Prize longlistee. Khairani Barokka is an Indonesian writer, editor, and artist based in London, and is Editor of Modern Poetry in Translation.
