Chinese poet Yang Lian’s work has been translated into more than thirty languages, and has won a number of awards including the Sarah Maguire Prize for Poetry in Translation (2021). Indeed, the roll-call of his UK based translators is impressive in its own right, including Bill Herbert and Fiona Sampson in addition to this morning’s panellists Brian Holton, George Szirtes and Pascale Petit. Join Assistant Festival Director and translator Annie Rutherford for discussion and debate exploring with these poet-translators the challenges and opportunities (and pitfalls?) of translating Lian’s work.
