Dr Elizabeth-Jane Burnett tackles the theme of WILD in this performative lecture featuring a selection of her writings inspired by the theme. Since her debut collection Swims in 2017, Burnett’s work has dug deep into environmental activism, embodying a poetry that is at once hyper-local and aware of the passage of time on a monumental level. Burnett brings a valuable perspective to an English countryside that is too easily mystified and romanticised out of its true, not merely ecological, but also social frictions. Burnett’s thoughts are a real must in a packed Friday programme.
Dr Elizabeth-Jane Burnett is an author and academic whose work has a largely environmental focus. Her poetry collections Of Sea and Swims were published by Penned in the Margins, and her nature writing includes the memoir The Grassling (Penguin).
