Poetry Centre Stage
Tonight we’re putting poetry centre stage with readings from Russell Jones and Adam Zagajewski. Edinburgh-based writer Russell Jones’ work has been published in a number of collections and ranges from sci-fi poetry to poetry comics. He’ll be dipping into both of these for StAnza and exploring poems across different media, with readings from poetry comics accompanied by their illustrations. Reading alongside Russell is Adam Zagajewski, a major figure of the Polish New Wave literary movement of the early 1970s and of the anti-Communist Solidarity movement of the 1980s. His work explores the presence of the past in the everyday and has won a number of awards. Adam’s poem ‘Try to Praise the Mutilated World’ found particular resonance with readers in 2020.
