Poetry Centre Stage
From 1 April the StAnza 2021 festival content on this page is no longer available.
It is with deep sadness that we have to share the news that Adam Zagajewski died on Sunday 21 March, 2021. His reading, which we recorded some weeks ago for StAnza 2021 per the introduction below, remains available to view until 31 March.
Tonight we’re putting poetry centre stage with readings from Adam Zagajewski and Russell Jones. Adam Zagajewski was a major figure of the Polish New Wave literary movement of the early 1970s and of the anti-Communist Solidarity movement of the 1980s. His work explores the presence of the past in the everyday and has won numerous awards. Adam’s poem ‘Try to Praise the Mutilated World’ found particular resonance with readers in 2020. Reading alongside Adam is Edinburgh-based writer Russell Jones. His work has been published in a number of collections and ranges from sci-fi poetry to poetry comics. He’ll be dipping into both of these for StAnza and exploring poems across different media, with readings from poetry comics accompanied by their illustrations.
Just return to this webpage to view the event, which will be captioned.
Books by festival poets are available here, with profits going to St Andrews bookshop J & G Innes.
